The choice of steel for doctor blades is crucial because they need specific properties to perform their function effectively. Some common characteristics desired in doctor blade steel include:

1. Hardness: Doctor blades should be hard enough to effectively scrape or clean surfaces without wearing down quickly. The high hardness allows the blade to maintain its edge and provide consistent performance over time.

2. Wear resistance: Rotogravure printing doctor blades Steel are subjected to repeated sliding and scraping motions, so they need to resist wear and retain their shape. Wear-resistant steel helps prolong the blade’s lifespan and reduces the frequency of blade replacements.

1. There are various types of firms in the IT market. First of all, 21 century internet shopping became the boom. They control about 15%~20% of Latvia’s electronic devices. Internet shopping has various advantages but also disadvantages. The biggest advantage of internet shopping is that customers can sit on the chair and choose the product. The next advantage is the price of product. Products from internet shopping are relatively cheaper than buying in off-line shop. On the other hand, product bought from internet shopping might not reliable. Also some internet shopping won’t support after service. Moreover, they might not have enough products to sell. Another type of firm in IT market is branch shops such as Elkor. Elkor is dominating about 60% of Latvia electronic devices. Advantage of this kind of firm is the after service. They sell reliable products and they provide a year warranty. On the other hand, the price of the product is more expensive than other firms. Finally there are ... Read more »

What is the number of firms in the market and their relative size?

The market of supermarket products in Latvia is clearly an oligopoly. There are about a dozen chains and a couple of individual stores. The most important chains are Sky, Elvi, Nelda, Iki, Maxima, Mego and Mego plus Prisma, Rimi and Supernetto, and Stockmann. However Maxima and Rimi (and Supernetto) are the major players in this field. Rimi has a Market share of a bit over 20% as has Maxima. The other 55% are split up between other retailers, the biggest being Nelda, Iki, and Elvi with around 5% each (Numbers are rounded so much because the source is from 2008). My shop will only compete in the supermarket products market of Riga. There are no statistics available about the market share in Riga, but Sky and Stockmann are also major players in Riga while they don’t even appear in the Statistics for all of Latvia. Also Sky and Stockmann will be more direct competitors to my firm since they offer more German products t ... Read more »

Alienware Dealer Business Idea

Market Structure:
• What is the number of firms in the market and their relative size?
Large firms:
Elkor, Technoland, RD Electronics, SIA ELKO. When it comes to large firms, it seems quite evident that this becomes a monopoly. RD Electronics, as well as technoland simply couldn’t afford to keep so many centres open, of which Technoland closed a large center. The latter two can be added to smaller firms, as Elkor stands tall and remains the monopolistic giant. It is a battle between these businesses; many small ones offer lower prices for a variety of products, while Elkor’s advertising campaign is insanely intense. However, when looking up Latvian buisnesses' top 500 list, a company name SIA ELKO appears to be number three, selling computers and parts, with a turnover of 460,000LVL in 2009.
Smaller firms:

Pros and cons of the Government involvement in the banking sector: Case of the Parex Bank

A very important matter to understand is when the nationalization* of Parex Bank happened. It happened at the beginning of an economic recession* when many businesses and individuals started taking money out of Parex bank with the fear that the bank might bankrupt. With this fright of bankrupt, more than 60 million Lats were taken out of Parex within a week by Latvians who has money saved in Parex.

Pros: Without the nationalization of Parex Bank, Parex Bank would have surely bankrupted. Because of the government taking control of 51% of the bank and investing large sums of money into the bank, it was able to continue working and not bankrupt. If the government would have decided not to do anything about Parex and simply let Parex deal with its own problems, then soon they would have realized that Parex problems have turned into their o ...
